Way back when I was born, interest rates were at double digits.  The ability to borrow money is still a viable option for many people.  For example, FHA loan limits for a single family home in Maui County is set at $690,000 and conventional loan limits are set at $765,500.  Depending on the type of loan, rates are well below 10%.  During my career, I've had the chance to work with some awesome loan officers.  I always give my clients the option of working with a local bank for obvious reasons. A mainland bank because many clients have accounts with them and they may just get better rates being a long time cutomer.  And a mortgage broker since they may have access to money that more traditional banks don't have access to.  It never hurts to shop around.  If you are worried about your credit score getting dinged, do your mortgage shopping in a short amount of time.  One more piece of advice, once you found a lender and I've helped you find a property, no big purchases until the property you are buying has closed.  It hasn't happened to my clients but I've heard stories where a person bought a truck while trying to buy a house during an escrow period.  They didn't get the house because of those car payments.  Be smart!  Big purchases after closing.

What can I say about myself?  I was born and raised on Maui.  I did leave for a little while to got to school on Oahu but Maui called my name and I came back to the valley isle.  As for me, I am the proud father of two great kids and and wonderful wife.  My family means the wold to me.  A close second are the New York Football Giants.
